Rotary Shaft Seal, The Best Helper For Horizontal Mixer Shaft End Seal

2025-04-14

In daily mixer mixing equipment, in order to ensure the normal operation of the equipment and the stability of the process, the selection of sealing devices is particularly important. Many customers tend to choose relatively low-cost packing seals with limited budgets. Among them, packing has become the most common packing seal choice with its simple and practical characteristics.

The packing is woven from soft threads, and its cross-sectional area is usually square or rectangular. This design allows the packing to flexibly adapt to various shapes of equipment shafts or rotating parts during installation. The installation process is also relatively simple. Just wrap the packing around the required sealing part, ensure that the packing fits tightly to the bearing surface, and fix it with bolts or clamping devices. However, packing is not a permanent solution. As the equipment continues to run, the packing will gradually wear, resulting in a decrease in sealing performance. Therefore, regularly checking the wear of the packing and replacing it as needed is the key to maintaining the sealing performance of the equipment.

Compared with static sealing devices such as packing, dynamic seals are more commonly used in mechanical parts that need to be closed for rotation or reciprocating motion. Among them, the split structure of the rotary shaft seal as a kind of mechanical seal makes the sealing performance more superior. When repairing or replacing the seal, only some parts need to be disassembled, which greatly improves the convenience of operation. The rotary shaft seal with end face seal uses dry friction to achieve the sealing effect, and the pure PEEK material of the shaft seal moving ring ensures good wear resistance and corrosion resistance. However, dry friction also brings certain challenges, that is, in a high temperature environment, it is necessary to cool down by ventilation or water cooling to ensure the stable operation of the shaft seal.

For customers of mixer equipment, maintaining a proper speed is the key to extending the service life of the shaft seal. It is generally recommended to control the speed below 200 revolutions per minute to ensure that the shaft seal operates within safe operating conditions. Although the structure and materials of the rotary shaft seal are more complex and the price is slightly higher than that of the packing, its excellent sealing performance and stability can significantly improve the reliability and production efficiency of the equipment.
